As shoogen said, it won't let you export to a real CAD export format like STEP or IGES.ĭesignSpark Mechanical is actually based on SpaceClaim, a professional CAD program that can export to various CAD formats. I mean that the software will not let you export to other formats than mesh (STL and possibly others, I don't recall) or DXF. What FreeCAD cannot do though, is what's shown in the DesignSpark video starting at 3:45.Ītzensepp wrote:What Do you mean exactly with intentionally crippled? See this (soundless) video I quickly made: FreeCAD PartDesign_Mirrored_Feature (YouTube) ![]() You cannot edit the geometry directly, but you can change it through the sketches and the 3D features. So you can pad a circle to create a pin on the block, then create a mirrored feature to mirror the pin. ![]() In the PartDesign workbench you have pretty useful transformation features that can pattern or mirror a selected feature. That being said, you can do some of the same things in FreeCAD. ![]() FreeCAD does not have that, and it would be a huge undertaking to implement it. What you see in DesignSpark is called direct editing. As far as I have seen FreeCad allows only 2D symmetry constraints that can be set in Sketcher. ![]() Atzensepp wrote: With "symmetries in space" I meant the stuff after 3:33 min - when the viedoist shows how movements of one pin are properly replicated symmetrically to a mirror plane onto the other pin.
